Lanterns of Hopes to Lanterns of Happiness
I was informed that you have traveled Dominican Republic once and I am sure you have seen many poverties. Me too have seen poverty in China when I traveled there when I was 10. This is the story of a group called Faroles de Esperanza in Dominican Republic.
Martina, who is the coordinator of Faroles de Esperanza, translated to 'Lanterns of hope' in English.
Her group lives in the slum around Santiago, Dominican Republic, where tobacco productions are well known. Where they live, the water is not pure enough to consume and electricity is very unreliable, making their lives harsh to live on. Martina is trying to use the loans she gets to improve her business of selling miscellaneous products and also clothes which she sells by walking around the slum. She also gives a sack of rice every week and only gets paid one tenth of the price of it. She is excited to get loans from you to reinvest her business such as buying more clothes and sacks of rice.
I strongly think you should lend your $50 to this group because honestly none of us living in United States can imagine a life where water is not drinkable and electricity is not reliable. Martina and her group lives on everyday in those situations. We could simply go to the mall and buy clothes but Martina walks around the town selling clothes, which is unbelievable to those who lives in 'wealthy' country like U.S. Also receiving only one tenths of the price of the sack of rice she gives off once every week cannot potentially support her living. Just good enough to support their foods for couple days. If I were to lend someone money, it would be them. Because I can not imagine living a life like Martina and her group does.
Before I end my post, I suggest Professor SBS that she will consider my post before lending her money to other groups because Faroles de Esperanza are people who needs helping hands outside of their country. And as for Eagle Writers, check out the Kiva websites and their groups when you have some spare times. I think this is a great website to help others who goes through difficulty times.

Wow. You are a very powerful writer Kyung. The way you speak about this group shows that you actually do care about more then just writing a blog post. You made me put my own life in a little perspective. What is $50 dollars in my life that I can't just lend to these women who need help and support.

I love reading your blog posts! They are very interesting. I like how you described how hard that she has to work just to be able to support herself. When you think about it, $50 dollars to some people in the United States is just a pair of shoes or even a phone. We don't always think about how hard other people in other countries have it. I think that this post will inspire many people to at least think about donating. Thank you!
답글삭제You've once more followed the directions to a T, and shown your natural talent as a writer! Your voice shines in this post through the personal connections and comparisons that you've written about, such as the clothing shopping experience. I also appreciate that you took time to research your audience and have considerately appealed to SBS. Work on adding a powerful call to action in the end, the last line or two should make your reader want to jump out of their seat and go save the world. As in some of your other posts there are a few pesky grammatical errors that detract from your message (i.e. lives harsh to live on). Most of these can be heard easier than they are seen, try reading your writing out loud to a friend before posting, or make a quick stop at the writing center.
